This is for the fact I sold my car. At the moment I’m just riding around on a motorcycle. If it thought it was possible to ride with a golf bag strapped to my back I’d do it. But I don’t see that happening safely. I’m looking for a new car but the right deal hasn’t popped up yet. Unless a friend offers to pick me up and go to the golf course I’m going to have to wait. This is my favorite time of the year to golf because the weather is cooler and the smell of fall is in the air.

Recently the weather has been summer hot in Los Angeles. I don’t see the weather lasting like this for much longer. There is no telling what Mother Nature has up her sleeve though. All I know for sure is my swing is losing valuable practice time. The first bucket of balls at the range won’t be pretty but I’ll get back in it. The golf course is calling my name.

I sold my car last week and have yet to buy a new one. My motorcycle has been getting me from point A to point B but I recently discovered one of the bolts holding a front engine mount in place stripped. This is not good. The vibration near my right leg is what set me off to this discovery. It is not smart to ride with three out of the four engine mounts. That is just asking for critical failure. The bolt is something I can find at a hardware store. There is one five miles down the road, which I found with a quick map search.

My only workable wheels right now is a skateboard. Mountain biking would be the easiest option but my roommate already took his out and about. How to skateboard five miles over bumpy ground keeps running through my head. Fingers crossed a friend can take me there. If not I’m going to learn how to skateboard long distances the hard way. Talk about a real bummer.

The excitement of a three-day weekend helped the week fly by. Now we are almost into the weekend and that means different things for different people. For me, it means hanging out with friends who come into town tomorrow, college football and two birthday parties. Somewhere in there, swimming is involved. For my roommate, it means packing the camping hiking gear and heading up north. He and a few friends locked down a route where they’ll hike a trail for a few miles before setting up camp. My other roommate has a tee time at the local golf course tomorrow. It all comes down to rest and relaxation.

Summer is almost behind us. Labor Day weekend gives us a chance to give the season an adequate bon voyage. However you choose to spend it just make sure come Tuesday you accomplished what you wanted over the weekend. The golf course sounds pretty good for Monday. It has been about a month since I worked on my swing. It probably will be less than pretty.

That was pretty much where I was at about a month ago. I spent my teen years shredding around city streets and local parks but after taking a very long break, I had to learn how to skateboard again. My balance was all off. I’d grown since a teen and forgot how to do the simplest things like olley on the move. My friend sped my learning lessons up by reminding me of pointers. I probably look awkward, standing over 6-feet tall swaying back and forth in the wind like a corn stalk but I can ride again.

As for the ollying, I’ve gotten better. I figured out how to do it consistently while on the move just not very high. It’s all about commitment and not thinking about what could happen if I fall. Learning how to skateboard is still fun. A lot of people my age and older in SoCal still shred. That is why I love this laid-back side of the country.

It has traditionally been an activity business people take part in while trying to grease up a potential client or talk strategy in between driving the fairway. Tomorrow, I’m headed to the golf course with a couple of buddies, one of which is in the same fantasy football league as me. We had draft day this past Thursday and I really want a player that he has. I’m willing to trade Mark Sanchez and Crabtree for rookie Ryan Mathews on the Chargers. I wanted him the entire time but my buddy picked him up second round before I could. Now I will not offer both Sanchez and Crabtree right away. I’ll offer one at a time and see how he responds.

If I’m lucky we will put the decision to who wins a hole. He plays golf but I’m confident at this golf course since I’ve played so much. In that scenario, Ryan Mathews may be on my squad for less than I hoped. Tomorrow golfing is about business.

It is much easier just to go down to the beach and ride around the sandy paths, through the vendors and street performers while catching the sea breeze. This is the exact plan for the weekend. The sun is supposed to stay shinning through Sunday and I have been talking about going to the beach for some time now. A little bit of riding and a swim seems like the perfect way to spend a day off work. I’d also love to learn how to skateboard in the new park by the sand in Venice. From what I heard, it is huge and pretty tough for those who don’t shred every day. It has been years since I was out dropping in and carving bowls.

Mountain biking just seems like the smart and speedy option. I figure flying down the beach trail after a dip in the ocean will be a nice way to dry off too before getting back in the car. Summer is the season of outdoor adventure. Speaking of such, I need to buy new camping hiking gear online.

There are so many different ways that I have found out that you can go about learning how to skateboard, that for me I would have to say that the biggest lesson is learned through the methods of trial and error. That old time saying always rings true here: practice does indeed make one perfect within their endeavors. However, tantamount to that saying is that sometimes I need a little extra help when looking at how to skateboard and different and newer tricks that I can learn. My secret: I like to look up how to skateboard tips and hints online so I can easily figure out how the pros are busting such nifty moves, and then apply their train of thought to my situation. Another cool thing I have seen about looking up such hints and tips online is that there are tons of them that you can find, and for free—which makes learning how to skateboard a breeze and a grand time for one and all!

He hadn’t seen them in a year and was looking forward to spending a few days with them. One of the first things they did together was search out a reasonably priced golf course and played 18 holes. He said that was mostly a comedy of errors that day as they all had pretty high scores that day. It was a windy day when they were on the golf course, so that is what they blamed their poor scoring on. The following day, his friends rented some mountain bikes, my brother has his own, and off they went on some popular mountain biking trails nearby. They truly had a good time going down the rocky terrain and brought back memories for them when they did this together as younger guys. Between these activities and just relaxing with their favorite brews, the time he said went pretty fast. It was back to work and real life again, but they all had a great, active visit.

The desert is a wild place to experience from an outdoor perspective. Every time I get out into the Southwest at least one of the days is either spent wielding around camping hiking gear amongst red rock or mountain biking within desert trails. While out there this time my brother and I decided to drive up to a nearby suburban neighborhood nestled on the foot of a popular mountain to conquer the bike trails. We had loaded up the family SUV, parked in a trailhead lot and unloaded. We were not alone as this was one of the last days before a heat wave was said to bring 90-degree temperatures into the area.

Plenty of joggers and couples sauntered down rocky trails, some of difficulty and some much more laid back on paved concrete. Mountain biking from my standpoint is best when the trail isn’t so rocky where it becomes dangerous. We found the perfect ride that went up, down and all around the area. It made me want to go online and buy new mountain biking gear after viewing cactus, petroglpyh art on the rocks and assorted wildlife.

In fact, whenever he and my mom go on vacation she has to make sure that wherever they end up there is a golf course he can use. My dad hasn’t been playing golf for a long time, he just picked it up last year, but that first round at the local golf course with my uncle was all he needed to fall head over heels for the game. The amazing thing is that in a very short time he went from getting whooped on golf course to giving spankings left and right on the same golf course. I guess he had an innate talent no one new about until now and he is trying to make the best of it in a hurry. Let me tell you, he is so pumped about making it to the golf course every day that it could be raining like we need to start building an arch and all he can say is that is not so bad out there to be practicing in the golf course. When he says those kinds of comments sometimes it makes me wonder whether there could be anything at all that would make him stay away from a golf course and to this day we haven found one yet.

As a little girl it was a special treat to tag along on occasion and ride in the golf cart while Dad played a round of golf. I guess it wasn't a coincidence that we lived right across the street from a golf course. My Dad played there at least a couple times a week.

The golf course was my Dad's playground. When he had free time on the weekends that is where you would find him. To this day, my Dad plays at that same golf course where he has been a member for my entire lifetime. The clubhouse workers know him by name as he often stops in there for breakfast or lunch and afternoon cocktails.

My Dad says this golf course has been a challenge for him and that is one reason why he keeps returning. Plus if you know my Dad he is a loyal man. The people have treated him well and he returns that favor by primarily playing that golf course. I am grown now, but I still like to tag along every so often and ride in that golf cart to watch my Dad playing his passion of golf.

I haven’t been to an amusement golf course in a long time, but I used to be good at it. I have been to the driving range several times now because I do want to get into the real game of golf. Down here in the southwest, there is a golf course everywhere you turn, so when my sons come down here to visit, I would like to play with them eventually too. So with this strategy in mind, I thought I would be decent at mini golf like in the old days. Let’s just say, I was having a terrible time getting most of the golf balls into the holes. Between the swinging pendulum, the downward slopes, the wrong pathways and the watering holes, I just should have called it a night. I persisted onward, though, laughing at how bad I was and listening to my friends comments. Thank goodness, on the real golf courses, there are no castles and spiral pathways to worry about.
